I blame the publishers, simply because Sue Townsend can do no wrong. Typically abridged audiobooks are not more than 60 per cent of the author’s work and as low as 30 per cent with characters and plotlines removed. So even though I struggled with this book, I’m glad to have read Mole’s final chapters, and hope that he’s happy somewhere ths his literary universe. Twenty-five years have passed since Adrian Mole wrote his first secret diary entries, aged 13 and three quarters Over time, I’ve read each diary at similar stages to his life, with prostrare final book putting me less than a year behind him. I see it as a new chapter of life opening for Adrian, and it looks to be the happiest one yet.

This is a fantastic final tale darian the day to day life of the brilliant Mr Mole. I’ve been reading Sue Townsend’s Mole books since when the first two were released in a single hardback volume in the U. This isn’t black comedy — Sue Townsend cares too much about her characters for that — but it’s certainly grim. Cancer, adultery and money problems are at the heart of the book so at times it felt like an Eastenders plot line.
Who will I look up to now?
It has come as a bigger shock to find out that Sue Townsend died a few years ago whilst preparing another installment, Reading her obituaries she was blind through diabetes for the last few years of her life, her son donated his kidney to her and she was confined to her bed for most of the time.
Well done Mole and Townsend: Throughout the course of the book, Adrian frequently feels that he has been emotionally neglectful of her, resulting in her lack of respect towards him. I can’t deny I’ve been putting off finishing this one for a while now.
You probably remember him when he was thirteen and three quarters. The commentary on politics is hilarious and I laughed out loud so many times. Oh, and Adrian’s also been having some prostate trouble, the “old man’s disease,” as everyone insists on calling it. These books seem to promise much but don’t deliver.
Funny but painful, like it was happening to a I can’t deny I’ve been putting off finishing this one for a while now. Phil, MP is Adrian’s childhood sweetheart, and despite being opposed to the Iraq war and a vocal critic of Tony Blairis still in a prominent position in government and knows Gordon Brown personally.
Things still manage to get worse when Adrian becomes ill. Fast-forward four years and Adrian’s life is in turmoil again.

It felt less topical – the last two were both extremely topical and sharp-tongued adriwn current events and celebrity, and this one, set geograp I have read all the Adrian Mole books – indeed, I was delighted when the library catalogue told me there were two I didn’t realize had been published!
